We have set a date for the Dress A Girl Around the World Sew Day: Thursday, July 18 from 4-8 pm in Country Oaks’ chapel. This is the regular meeting time of the quilt group the Loose Threads and together with Country Oaks Baptist women’s ministry we want to invite women to come and sew pillowcase dresses for this wonderful charity. http://www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com/
Margo Amero had a workshop in her home which I (Angi Wiggins) got to attend recently and she has agreed to come and teach us how to make the dresses. Could you please comment on this post if would like to come so I can get enough tables set up? Thanks. We hope to do a production line with different stations for each part of the dress but if you would like to sew a dress from start to finish that would be great, too.
Please bring a snack (finger foods) to share since we’ll be working through the dinner hour. (Come for the whole time or an hour – whatever works for you)
Supplies (Bring what you have, buy some new, or just come and sew!):
Equipment: Sewing machine and sewing supplies, extension cords, irons, ironing boards, cutting mats, rotary cutters, scissors, pins, etc.
For the Dresses: 3/4 to 1 yard pieces of fabric or a bright colorful pillowcase (you can also bring 3/8 of contrast fabric, trim, lace, ribbon if you want to embellish your dress), Double Fold Bias Tape (Quilting Binding), Elastic 1/2 inch. Margo has the labels for the dresses. Patterns are also available for download and printing from the website.
I was thinking of doing a Bias Tape making demonstration/station to make bias tape out of contrast or matching fabric. Hope you all can come and join in the fun.
